In less than a year, the UK’s analogue phone network will be switched off. You need to act now to beat the deadline, so you can keep your customers connected and your business ready for tomorrow’s opportunities.
The clock’s ticking, but you’re not alone. We’re going all-in on all-IP, giving you the support, tools and incentives you need to deliver smooth digital migrations and secure your future growth.
This is the end of the line for the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The industry first announced the switch-off in 2017, and the original deadline was already extended from December 2025 to 31 January 2027 - but there won’t be any more extensions.
The PSTN has to be replaced because it can no longer keep up with modern demands, and it’s becoming increasingly unreliable and expensive to maintain. If you haven’t already completed or started migrating your customers, you need to take action. Stand still, and you risk being left behind.
We give you the network reach, capacity and performance for long-term all-IP success. Read our datasheet for more information.

Most Openreach exchanges have already entered into a stop-sell phase, meaning no more Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) products can be sold in them.
Remaining exchanges to enter stop-sell:
From 1 April 2026, the price of WLR will increase, followed by two more increases on 1 July 2026 and 1 October 2026. After 31 January 2026, any remaining analogue lines will no longer work.

Although the PSTN has been upgraded many times, it’s still built on old-fashioned copper technology. This is no longer suitable for the kind of high-bandwidth, digital business practices of today, such as video conferencing, collaborative cloud working and file sharing. The PSTN is also becoming more difficult and expensive to maintain.
Any devices that rely on the PTSN. Some of these devices can be adapted to run on all-IP networks, but others will need to be replaced.
Yes, the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) will also be shut down on 31 January 2027.
After this date, the PSTN and ISDN will no longer function, and neither will any devices that rely on them. It’s vital to start your migrations as soon as possible, because the longer you leave it, the more likely it is that you and your customer will face disruption. Our recommended cut-off for migrations was the end of December 2025.
